As you wrap your hands on the steering wheel, you can feel the metal beast trembling.  Suddenly the other racers around you come to life and you slam your foot on the pedal, making your own racer dart out into the open road at top speed.  From behind you comes the police in their equally fast and sophisticated vehicles, their only intent is to stop this illegal race no matter what.  In Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, all you can do is strap on your seat belt and gun it--this is one wild race.


You have a slew of fast cars at your disposal from the sleek and sexy Dodge Viper GTS to the fast and furious Ferrari 360 Spider.  And again, the basic objective is to elude police cars that are trying to put an end to the race or you can do the chasing as the police (complete with spike strips, road blocks and helicopter support).  The emphasis is on speed and quick reflexes as you race to win while trying not to get rammed off the road.

There are five different ways of playing the game: Hot Pursuit, Championship, Single Challenge, Quick Race and Multiplayer.  Quick Race takes gamers directly into the racing action whole Hot Pursuit is a more orderly game mode that takes you through a list of thirty-three challenges while eluding the police to gain the Ultimate Road Racer title.  Championship is similar, only here there is no police interference.  Single Challenge is a customizable game mode where you can design the race with or with police interference and the number of racing opponents.  And Multiplayer is an Internet or LAN multiplayer mode where there are no computer-controlled opponents, just players either friends or just fellow gamers from all over.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 for the PC is not the best version of this really great game, but it still has enough racing action to be top of its class.  With okay graphics and a few stutters and bumps along the way, there is plenty of racing modes and an option to play with other gamers using internet that makes this a worthwhile game for PC gamers.

Kisahnya cukup simpel karena game ini penekanannya di action. Alkisah, dua sahabat Sieg Warhreit dan Victor Delacroix bermusuhan karena terbunuhnya Siela secara tragis di tangan salah satu dari mereka. Sepanjang permainan, Delacroix selalu yakin bahwa Sieg-lah yang membunuhnya. Namun bukan itu masalah utamanya; Delacroix menemukan sebuah buku, Apocrypha of Yzarc, yang menguak kenyataan bahwa Order selama ini bermain-main dengan jiwa. Ini termasuk Sieg, yang memiliki gelar Knight of the Dark Glyphs, yaitu mereka yang mampu mengendalikan legion (itu sebabnya game ini berjudul Chaos Legion). Untuk mengakhiri semua itu, termasuk bertemu kembali dengan Siela, Delacroix pun melakukan cara yang terbilang berbahaya, yaitu menyatukan dunia nyata dengan dunia roh. Tentu saja, tugas kita untuk menghentikannya.


Game ini hanya terdiri dari 14 stage, termasuk 1 stage prolog tutorial. Untuk pemain PC, sangat disarankan menggunakan gamepad serupa PS (lebih baik lagi ada kontrol analog) karena dijamin banyak tombol yang harus ditekan berulang-ulang selama permainan. Tempo permainan pun cukup lama: satu stage berkisar antara 10 hingga 45 menit, tidak termasuk game over. Sepanjang waktu kita akan berperan sebagai Sieg, kecuali 1 stage (stage 9) dimana kita mengendalikan tokoh tambahan, Arcia (jika menuntaskan game ini pada level Normal, Arcia dapat dimainkan sebagai tokoh utama). Sieg akan dibantu dengan maksimal 2 legion (sangat tidak mungkin menuntaskan game ini tanpa bantuan legion). Ada 6 legion yang bisa dipilih, tidak termasuk 1 legion ultimate yang hanya bisa dipakai dengan mengumpulkan 9 pecahan crest (semacam patung yang digunakan untuk memanggil legion tertentu). Tiap legion tentu saja memiliki kekuatan sendiri-sendiri, yang mewakili pedang (Guild), kekuatan (Hatred), panah (Malice), pertahanan (Arrogance), cakar (Flawed), dan bom (Blastphemy).


Tiap akhir stage, sebelum memulai stage berikutnya, ada layar Intermission dimana kita bisa memilih legion yang akan dibawa ke stage berikutnya, melakukan level-up legion (yup, yang level-up bukan Sieg, tapi legion-nya), menggunakan item, menyimpan, dan banyak lagi. Di akhir tiap stage, performa kita akan dinilai berdasarkan waktu penyelesaian stage, waktu penyelesaian boss, jumlah musuh yang berhasil dibunuh, mark monster (nggak tahu apa ini), dan Life dan Soul yang tersisa di akhir stage (penyembuhan setelah mengalahkan boss tidak dihitung). Tiap aspek akan dinilai dari skala AA+ hingga C dan ditotal untuk menentukan nilai akhir. Nilai akhir ini akan menggandakan EXP yang didapat, misalnya A menggandakan 1,3x. Untuk mendapat EXP, kita tidak harus menyelesaikan sebuah stage, tapi ada penalti kalau kita keluar sebelum waktunya (kecuali level Easy).
